They ended up losing 37-34 on an Illini touchdown with five seconds left. Not only was the comeback a major one for the program, but it also made the Illini bowl-eligible for the first time under Smith. That was the first time in Bears franchise history that they were able to win a game after trailing by at least 20 points in the second half.

Michigan State needs this win more than IL and a victory against the Illini would go a long way for this team's confidence.

Down 31-10, Imatorbhebhe scored on an 83-yard catch and run with 14:48 left in the fourth.

The Spartans (4-5, 2-4) then lost a fumble giving the Illini the ball at the Michigan State 8-yard line.

The reprieve was only temporary for the collapsing Spartans. Drama ensued when the PAT was missed, making the game 31-30 Michigan State. A minute later, IL had six first-and-goal plays from inside the 4-yard line, aided by two Michigan State time outs and a pass interference flag on fourth-and-goal by cornerback Josh Butler. Then Peters, Imatorbhebhe and Barker took it from there. A loss to the Sun Devils seemed to be the start of the letdown season.

Illinois: The Illini are off next weekend before playing at Iowa on November 23.

It's officially hate week, with in-state rival Michigan State coming to town for the battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy.
