Fed Cup Final: Barty, Australia Host France In Perth

With the most wins on tour (56), most top 10 wins (12), her first Grand Slam title, a WTA Finals title and the No. 1 ranking, Barty has easily been the standout Australian female performer in over a decade.

Australia's world number one Ashleigh Barty will play France's Caroline Garcia on the opening day of the Fed Cup final in Perth on Saturday.

Australia are seeking their first Fed Cup since 1974, while France last won in 2003.

"It's just wonderful to be part of another fantastic team and be in a final, this is what we've all been trying to achieve for a really long time", Stosur said following the Fed Cup draw on Friday.

"We have been there before, whereas the Australian girls haven't".

"It's a format that I love, I cherish it".

"But for sure, I have a lot of options for singles and doubles".

Tomljanovic and Mladenovic know each other well - the pair rose through the junior ranks in Europe together and their fathers played each other in professional handball.

After such a memorable year and with a chance to add her name to further Australian tennis history, this is a weekend Barty will treasure. It has been hard, sets have been very close and that's really the way that we want it.

However, her work at Fed Cup level can not be ignored.

Now unbeaten with a 6-0 record for rubbers this year, she became the first player to contest and win the maximum number of matches on the way to the Fed Cup Final in the competition's current format, having claimed clean sweeps during Australia's victories against US and Belarus earlier this year. Her work was acknowledged by the ITF, which presented her with an award ahead of the final draw on Friday.

The final is being played on hard outdoor courts at Perth Arena.

Barty is Australia's first women's world number one since her mentor Goolagong and also the first indigenous Australian to win a Grand Slam title after the 68-year-old great.

Australia has performed France 6 occasions in Fed Cup historic previous and has a 5-one edge, however misplaced when the groups final performed in France in 2000. "I've had some great moments in my career individually, but I think it's something very different playing as part of a team and as part of a competition like this, it would definitely be right up with one of the highlights of my career and something I'd always remember".
