The father of Atatiana Jefferson died not even a month after his black daughter was shot and killed by a white police officer in her Texas home.

On Oct. 18, a Dallas County judge granted Marquis Jefferson a temporary restraining order, giving him full authority to make arrangements for his daughter's funeral and burial. "He just couldn't get back from what happened with his daughter". Jefferson and attorneys for his daughter's relatives ultimately reached a confidential agreement and Atatiana's funeral was rescheduled and held October 24. "She say 'Tay was shot, '" he told CBS DFW. Police responded after a neighbor of Jefferson's called a non-emergency line and requested a well-being check after noticing her door was ajar and the lights were on. The argument tends to center around black men, but Atatiana Jefferson was a black woman.
