Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi went picking up trash on Saturday from a scenic beach resort where he is hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping for summit talks. They had their inaugural Informal Summit in Wuhan, China on April 27-28, 2018.

Banwarilal Purohit, governor of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and the state's Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami wait beside the gangway and present flowers to Chinese President Xi Jinping upon his arrival in Chennai, India on October 11, 2019. Modi explained that he had received a renewed mandate for economic development, and Xi acknowledged the mandate, saying he looked forward to working with Modi "very closely on all issues for the next 4.5 years", Gokhale said.

Of course, there has been no shortage of mutual praise and reference to history. He landed in Chennai on Friday afternoon and met PM Modi in Mamallapuram.

Gokhale said both countries are diverse and radicalization is a matter of concern that should not impact the society. Modi gave Xi a guided tour of the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram, which was built during 7th and 8th century and includes Arjuna's Penance, Panch Rathas, Shore Temple and other monuments.

"Yesterday and today we have engaged in candid discussions and as friends", Xi said in opening remarks as the two leaders sat down for formal talks with their delegations. Noting that China-India cultural and people-to-people exchanges bear great potential, the Chinese president urged both countries to take the 70th anniversary of China-India diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to conduct broader and deeper cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Modi further added that the two countries are amicably finding solutions to disputed issues.

Modi and Xi are meeting in the southern town of Mamallapuram, home to centuries old wind-swept temple monuments but also popular with tourists for surfing in its flawless waves. Accompanied by Modi, Xi watched Bharatanatyam and other Indian classical dances, which represent ancient Indian civilisation.

Xi will also pay a state visit to Nepal after his trip to India.
