Cincy breweries win gold in Great American Beer Festival

Eight Arizona breweries earned medals at the Great American Beer Festival over the weekend, coming through in a variety of categories.

Spilled Grain Brewhouse continued its winning ways in strong beer categories with a silver medal for its False Hope, an American wheatwine ale, in the Other Strong Beer category. Then the brewery took a gold medal in the Chocolate Beer category with "Old Balltown Bulleit Bourbon Barrel Aged Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Brownie Milk Stout", or "OBBBBASCDCBMS", as the brewery calls it.

This year, 2,295 breweries participated in the annual competition and entered 9,497 beers.

"Ohio breweries work so hard every day to create exceptional beers and memorable experiences in their taprooms; it's great to see them recognized alongside the country's best", said Mary MacDonald, executive director of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association in a press release. Judging took place over the course of three days, with an worldwide panel of 322 judges from 18 countries.

"We had a choice to make, either invest resources into additional equipment or hire a talented brewing team". "The beers and talent were as impressive as ever, and I'm thrilled to congratulate this year's winners for their achievements in brewing". With a passion for craft beer, they set out to pay homage to the attractive Santa Ynez Valley with handcrafted beer and hand-drawn label art depicting their beloved local landscape.
