But today Microsoft sent out a second, formal invite to journalists, and it's now clear the company is planning big things for its next event.

Microsoft will host its Surface event in NY on October 2. She also believes that we might see several new Surface devices, including a new Intel-based Surface Pro 2-in-1 with an improved processor and USB-C, an AMD Surface Laptop, and a new ARM-based Surface 2-in-1 device. The invite says the event will start at 10am ET. And that could be a big hint as to what's to expect at the event. Last year, Microsoft didn't live-stream its Surface event where it launched new colors for the Surface line, which was a little disappointing for many.

There are two main details alluding to a major announcement: For one, TNW has learned both Surface head honcho Panos Panay and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will be in attendance. For reference, Nadella didn't attend last autumn's Surface event.

Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay has taken to Twitter to reveal that its 2019 Surface Event will be held on October 2.

ZDNet has claimed Microsoft plans to discuss new "experiences" for Surface hardware. The Next Web speculates that the event could see the launch of a device codenamed Centaurus - a dual screen Surface.

Microsoft will be hosting an event in New York City on October 2.
