Former Vikings kicker only lasts a game with the Jets

Two days after Kaare Vedvik's disastrous National Football League debut, the Jets have signed Sam Ficken, who was cut recently by the Green Bay Packers.

Ficken is 3 for 6 on field goals in four career games, and is 1 for 2 on extra points. He kicked two games for the Rams last season while Pro Bowler Greg Zeurlein was hurt.

Next up on the Jets' constantly spinning kicking carousel: Sam Ficken.

Ficken was signed after the Jets had several young kickers in for tryouts at the team's facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, including Greg Joseph, Younghoe Koo, Elliott Fry and Tristan Vizcaino.

If there is a positive takeaway from this signing, Ficken has missed just one of his 15 extra-point tries in his brief National Football League career and that's something that the likes of Bertolet and Vedvik have struggled with.

Ficken, who was waived by the Packers during final cuts, made his lone field goal attempt (41 yarder) and all five PATs for Green Bay in the preseason. "We haven't performed well", Gase said Monday of the kicking situation. It began in March when the Jets opted not to sign Jason Myers, who made the Pro Bowl for them a year ago. "We're going to try to figure out a way to fix it".

Catanzaro struggled in camp before he eventually retired.

That led them to Vedvik, who was released by the Vikings after missing three of four field goals. The Jets picked him up off waivers ahead of their season opener. Taylor Bertolet replaced him, but also had issues. Gase was part of that decision, but he was in no mood to reflect on it. I'm not talking about what happened in the past.
