Nest Hub Max was first unveiled during Google's I/O developer conference back in May - the product appears to mark an effort from Google to challenge the Amazon Echo Show.

Google's newest and largest smart home display hit the market yesterday.

The Nest Hub Max is a Google Assistant Smart display that comes in both chalk and charcoal, retails for $229 and is available in the U.S. starting today via the Google Store, as well as through retailers like Best Buy, Home Depot, and Target. But when it comes to the bigger version of the Nest Hub called the Nest Hub Max, this might actually be true.

"A larger and more powerful sibling to the first Nest Hub (a.k.a. Google Home Hub), the Hub Max has a 10" HD display with the same ambient EQ that adjusts brightness and color to avoid blinding you at night or in dim situations. The system is compatible with Android and iOS. In the morning, the Face Match feature will also greet you with personalized info, offering a "Good morning" greeting and then sharing reminders, commute information and other details for the day meant just for you.

Because the device was designed for home use, every member of the family can have their own profile.

In tandem with the device's launch today, Google prepared a running list of all the use cases the Nest Hub Max makes possible (101 ways to use the device). Furthermore, the camera understands gesture controls: By looking at the device and raising a hand, the Nest Hub Max will automatically pause media.

Despite the precautions, the announcement has largely been met with skepticism as trust in big tech wanes amid back-to-back privacy issues. Even though Google is not watching you, technically. Equipped with a rear-facing woofer, owners will be able to enjoy full stereo sound. This allows you to see what's going on when you're not home.

Google Duo capability also means it can be used for video calling on iOS and Android devices.

The best part about the camera is the fact it will send an individual alerts when it detects movement - meaning users can quickly find the most important footage amongst hours of recorded video.

Nest Hub Max will launch in the USA this summer for $229, along with the United Kingdom (£219) and in Australia (AUS$349).
