In a video shared on social media, the man, identified by India Today as Akash destroyed a BMW gifted to him by his parents because he wanted a Jaguar instead.

A BMW was retrieved from a river in the district of Yamunanagar, with a team of local police using ropes and a rubber boat to reach the partially submerged vehicle.

However, after giving it a second thought, and perhaps realizing what a jerk he was, the man dove in with others to help rescue the vehicle.

Akash shared a video on social media of his brand new auto floating away. Police also said the parents claim the man has an undisclosed mental issue.

"Akash was unhappy with his father for not buying him Jaguar", a police spokesperson told the outlet. The BMW eventually got stuck on a patch of grass in the middle of the river, causing Akash to jump into the water to go after it.

BMW cars cost around 3.5 million rupees ($65,000) locally in India, while Jaguars cost about 4 million to 5 million rupees ($92,000).

Rescuers had rushed out to the auto, which came to rest on a bank of tall grass, thinking that someone was inside after villagers raised the alarm, according to the Deccan Herald.

The lad's father, Sanjeev Kumar, said: "I wanted to give my son a birthday present".

"We could only afford to give him a BMW, while he kept on insisting that he be given a Jaguar". The auto was driven to the edge of the bank, and then pushed the rest of the way. "He deliberately pushed (the) luxury vehicle BMW into the river", a police report said.
