It will have dual cameras to add depth and dimension to photos and videos.

Snap Inc. unveiled the third - and most expensive - iteration of the company's video-recording sunglasses on Tuesday.

Spectacles 3 are priced at $380 - 2.5 times the starting $150 price point of the current generation.

Spectacles 3 will go on sale in November but you can pre-order today.

Why is the money-losing company, which has sold far fewer Spectacles than it initially expected, continuing to invest in hardware? When Snap reported second-quarter results in July, it said revenue from Spectacles was "not material". Even if the Snapchat specs never achieve mass-market adoption, Snap appears to be hoping Spectacles 3 will be coveted by influencers and power users to produce cool AR posts for the Snapchat app.

Samsung has pretty much abandoned the low-priced Gear VR lineup, Google's Daydream platform isn't doing a lot better either, while higher-end headsets are yet to yield the tiniest of profits for HTC, but none of that is stopping Snap from betting big on another stylish pair of smartglasses.

The new Spectacles 3 are built using a lightweight steel frame with cameras mounted on either side of the frame and are offered in your choice of carbon (black) or mineral (a rose gold / beige) color schemes.

That's likely why Snap says Spectacles 3 will be a "limited edition" product, with production just a fraction of the original model. The glasses provide a 3D viewer for watching Snaps captured by the Spectacles. The company will leverage this capability through a new suite of homegrown 3D effects, and sometime later this year, third-party developers will be able to get in on the action with their own custom 3D effects. The glasses also include a full-grain leather charging case equipped with a standard USB-C charging cable.
