A new movie adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel Little Women is coming, courtesy of director Greta Gerwig. They even befriend a young neighbor Laurie (Chalamet), who is instantly welcomed in the tight-knit family unit made up of the tomboyish Jo, the eldest Meg (Emma Watson), the kind-hearted Beth (Eliza Scanlen), and the spoiled Amy (Florence Pugh). "If the main character's a girl", a male publisher responds, "Make sure she's married by the end".

The first trailer for Greta Gerwig's "Little Women" hit the internet Tuesday at noon, giving audiences their first look at the star-studded project, which spent months filming in MA past year.

However, Jo is determined to prove women are more than just wives.

The trailer opens on Saoirse Ronan's Jo March, who is seen running in two different outfits, and two different settings.

Back in December 2018, Emma shared the sweetest photo of her Little Women cast members and director. Meryl Streep plays Aunt March, while Laura Dern plays Marmee and Timothée Chalamet features as Laurie. This marks the second on-screen romance between Ronan and Chalamet after Lady Bird. "We've got ambition and talent as well as just beauty", Ronan's Jo says in the clip. "I'm so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for, I'm so sick of it!"

Jo has previously been played by Katharine Hepburn in 1933, and Winona Ryder in 1994.

Little Women is released this Christmas.
