Acura Type S Concept

Acura has had problems selling its sedans in recent years. Pronounced wheel haunches at the rear impart a rear-wheel drive look, though Acura hasn't said if this vehicle, or the upcoming TLX, will switch to a rear-drive platform.

Created to preview the upcoming TLX Type S, the concept is a bold departure for Acura as it adopts a sleek and stylish design that embraces "Precision Crafted Performance".

Acura says the new concept previews the next-generation TLX Type S sedan. The revamped NSX shares detailing from its fascia, with sizable air intakes for an unspecified engine, while the headlamps are underscored by a translucent strip of white "Chicane" LEDs that act as both turn signals and daytime running lights.

What you see here is a pretty strong preview of what the upcoming TLX Type S will look like. We can also see 21-inch alloy wheels that are backed up by a high-performance Brembo braking system with four-piston calipers. That hasn't been seen on a new Acura since the Acura TL Type S back in 2008, marking a performance variant of the vehicle. The rear end looks positively futuristic, with lots of interesting angles that extend to the taillights, as well as four monster tailpipes at the bottom of everything.

Meanwhile, the Pebble Beach concept auto will also reboot the Type S badge in general. Typically, Type S cars have offered a modest amount of additional power, sportier suspension tuning, bigger brakes, larger wheels and tires, and sporty exterior design cues.

After its private debut at an event on August 15, the Acura Type S Concept will make its public debut at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering on August 16. That uses nano pigments and a color-infused clear coat, the automaker says, for more luster and brilliance.
