Halep blizted Williams from the off as she ran out a 6-2 6-2 victor to add the Wimbledon crown to the French Open title she won past year.

"The finals I lost in the past helped me to be different when I face this moment", she said. We are told to sit down and be quiet, which frankly is just not something I'm okay with.

"If she's happy doing it this way, it's fine", King said.

Serena Williams doesn't plan to stop fighting for equality.

"In everything she does, Serena shines a light on what all of us must fight for in order to achieve equality for all".

Then, on Saturday, she stepped on to Wimbledon's Centre Court and obliterated the great Serena Williams 6-2 6-2 in 56 minutes to win the final.

Thirteen months ago, Comaneci was the first person Halep hugged when she clambered up into the stands on Court Philippe Chatrier after she won her first Grand Slam title at the French Open. She remained rock solid throughout and Williams simply could not respond.

"When I came back from Montreal in 1976, there were 10,000 people who had turned up to greet me and I didn't know what hit me", recalled Comaneci about the welcome she received as a 14-year-old. "I mean, I don't really think about it".

"That's kind of how I've been in my whole career". I never thought that I would be able to win on grass, with all these players that are very tall and serving with a lot of power.

"I don't know. I feel like I'm just really on this journey of just doing the best that I can, playing the best that I can when I can".

"Yeah, I was motivated after I won the first one that there is another chance for one more". She defeated Giulia Gatto-Monticone in two sets in the first round but had to play to 7 games in the second set to do it.

"I definitely wasn't asleep".

"Ever since I was a little girl, I've felt a need to voice my opinion and be heard".

"Actually sometimes the comments help me, whether they're good or bad. It didn't bother me at all".

She becomes Romania's first-ever Wimbledon singles champion, while Williams suffered a third consecutive defeat in a Grand Slam final after losses to Angelique Kerber at the same venue past year and Naomi Osaka at the US Open.

While Comaneci had total faith that her friend would triumph on Saturday, others were not so sure considering Halep had won only one of her previous 10 meetings against Williams - and that nearly five years ago.

While Osaka was in tears over the furore when she received her maiden grand slam trophy, Williams doesn't regret the way she acted, saying it only strengthened her resolve to keep fighting for equality. "It would be interesting to see how my knee is on the hard court".
