According to Marca, Rodriguez, who has spent the past two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich, is attracted to the prospect of joining Atletico as he wants to remain in the Spanish capital.

Ancelotti, who worked with James, 28, at both Madrid and Bayern Munich, is keen to sign the Colombia worldwide.

Atletico are close to completing James' signing from Real Madrid, with his current club the only obstacle standing in the way.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has broken his silence on the reports linking Real Madrid's James Rodriguez with a move to the Serie A.

Napoli are already exploring a loan option after being put off by Madrid's demands.

He told Sky Italia: 'We are willing to make sacrifices to secure a deal for James, but Real Madrid must do more.

"We've not given up, but in order to break the ice we need Madrid to consider that rather than have an unhappy player sitting around, they should send him out to play". I don't talk to Florentino Perez about James, as we have [director of sport Cristiano] Giuntoli and an agent-friend of James, who is also our friend [Jorge Mendes], so we don't need to talk to Florentino.

"It'd be a gift for him", De Laurentiis added. He has understood that, he knows, Ancelotti spoke to him and was able to motivate him.
