He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 25 July at 09:30hrs.

The former Blue Peter and This Morning host is alleged to have sexually touched a woman in the Soho area in December 2008.

Scotland Yard said Leslie, from Edinburgh, was charged with sexual touching of a woman by postal requisition on June 5.

Leslie became a presenter on the BBC's Blue Peter in 1989.

In a statement issued by his representative, John Leslie said: "I am totally innocent of the historic allegation and will be contesting the trial". The Metropolitan Police said detectives continue to investigate.

In 1998 he took over from Bradley Walsh as the main presenter of game show Wheel Of Fortune, before joining This Morning a year later.

Leslie has not regularly appeared on television since the early 2000s but has appeared as a radio DJ on stations including Castle FM and the Scottish Bauer Radio AM network over the last five years.
