Check your fridge - your kale salad could be getting recalled right now.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a food recall warning of Eat Smart's Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad Bag Kit due to possible Listeria contamination.

Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below, which has been sold in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

Food contaminated with Listeria bacteria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk, they said. "In severe cases of illness, people may die".

The salad mix is produced by Fresh Taste Produce Ltd.

No one has reported any illnesses, but if you get sick you should call your doctor immediately.

If you have one of the kits with a best before date of July 17, you should throw it out or return it to the store.

Also, anyone who has eaten any of the recalled product should monitor themselves for symptoms during the coming weeks because it can take up to 70 days after exposure to Listeria for symptoms of listeriosis to develop.

The agency said its test results triggered the recall, and that the agency is conducting a food safety investigation. The brand's Sweet Kale Salad Shakeups was recalled for Listeria in December 2018.
