Kyrie Irving To Turn Down Player Option, Become Free Agent

Baynes signed a one-year deal with the Celtics in 2017 before agreeing to a two-year deal last season that included a player option for the coming year. It looked as though the Celtics could be the team to upset the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, but that prediction turned out to be a huge farce as the Celtics could barely play as a team. And with less than one month left before the beginning of free agency, Irving has made a significant change.

Selling jerseys for a low price isn't exactly a new practice but the timing of this latest sale is pretty interesting.

It's move that would force Kyrie Irving's hand in free agency, although reports have shown that the cryptic point guard has been showing plenty of interest in signing with the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics can offer Irving a bigger deal than anyone else this offseason, but the expectation is he'll be signing elsewhere, despite his pre-season proclamation that he would sign long-term in Boston this summer. He was named to the All-NBA Second Team (his second All-NBA nod in his career), adding to a career that includes an NBA championship, an All-Star game MVP, a Kia Rookie of the Year Award and six All-Star appearances.

In Boston's nine playoff games, Baynes averaged 2.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists, shooting 57% from the field, 33% from three and 50% from the free-throw line in 12.8 minutes.

"I know where I want to be", he said.
