Ronaldo's immediate replacement, former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle forward Owen, appeared to offer a miserly return but with the magic of hindsight, his goalscoring prowess looks nearly prolific.

Eden Hazard will be presented as a Real Madrid player on Thursday 13 June at 19:00 at the Santiago Bernabéu as the club plan to present their star signing in style.

Hazard shirts with the No.7 have also been on sale at Barcelona's airport.

Since Ronaldo left Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia, Angel di Maria, Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez have all worn the shirt but they've scored just 15 Premier League goals between them.

Next came Memphis Depay, who opened himself to more pressure than he was already under as the 'next Cristiano Ronaldo, ' as described by some at the time, by asking for Ronaldo's old number.

Next up was the recently departed Antonio Valencia, who for all his good points, never looked a natural fit in a shirt associated with skill and flair.

Kovacic's wages would not represent a stumbling block either, with the 25-year-old now earning just €4 million in Madrid.

The Dutchman lasted a season and a half under Louis van Gaal and latterly Jose Mourinho, scoring twice in the league and seven in all, with all his goals coming in the first season.

In comparison Ronaldo scored 84 times in the league at United in 196 appearances, including his record breaking 31 goals in 2007/08.

However, Inter want more than one new face in the middle of the park and Kovacic has emerged as a key target for the club.

Inter have swooped in to try and re-sign their former player and they have reportedly been in talks with Real Madrid to take Kovacic back to the San Siro this summer.
