Symptoms typically begin with a fever, runny nose, a cough and watery eyes. A rash appears three to seven days later, appearing first on the face and spreading to the rest of the body. People who received two doses of measles vaccine - either the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine or a measles-only vaccine - need not worry, the agency said.

What should you do if you were at one of the above locations at the time specified? Those who have received the standard two doses of the vaccine don't need to do anything.

Adults at high risk for exposure and transmission, including health care workers, worldwide travelers and college students, also are advised to have two doses of measles and mumps virus-containing vaccine separated by at least 28 days. However, to achieve complete immunity, contact your health care provider about getting a second vaccine dose.

"I'm a parent - I understand that concern - but again, the message really is around if you have actually come into direct contact with a case of measles you would know that because we would have contacted you, public health would have contacted you", said Russell. If you develop these symptoms, call your doctor right away. Call aheadbefore going to the office or the emergency room and tell them that you were exposed to measles.

Since the increase of MMR vaccination comprehensive coverage for at-risk people was among the measures to achieve the goal, the DDC had asked for Bt93.41 million budget to procure the MMR vaccine - for which the Bureau of Budget approved Bt54.15 million, the minister said.

People who have had a documented case of measles are immune for life, Ansher said. NY has been the largest contributor to this year's unfortunate milestone with almost 700 cases of measles reported this year in the state.

The cases in the Unites States have been imported from global travel. Infants too young for vaccination should consider avoiding travel to areas with measles, according to the VDH.
