And lo behold, that panel can perform a 180 degree flip!

Asus has unveiled a successor today (May 16) - the ZenFone 6 - that looks to right some of those wrongs.

What's most interesting is the price; it's a lot cheaper than some of its rivals on the market. Apart from the base 6GB/64GB variant, the smartphone comes in 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB variants priced at 559 Euros (about ₹44,000) and Euro 599 (about ₹47,000) respectively.

The device is most likely to feature a premium build quality with glass-metal construction, and the smartphone will also offer an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is a slight bummer, consider, nearly all flagship smartphones have started to offer an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The flippy nature of the camera module is interesting; rather than featuring a front-facing camera that would encroach on the display, the phone's rear-facing cameras can be flipped to face forwards. Housed in a mechanism machined from an amorphous alloy that is four times stronger than stainless steel, the ZenFone 6's main 48-megapixel, ƒ/1.79 lens and secondary 13-MP wide-angle sensor are used for every shot you capture with the phone - even selfies. Thus, the camera is toggling between the front and rear with the push of an on-screen button. What's cool is that you can control at what angle the module rises, meaning you can snap photos from different angles while keeping your phone in a less awkward position. Similar to how the pop-up camera on the OnePlus 7 Pro retracts, this one immediately jumps back into place when a drop is detected.

A possible quad camera design is shown here, as part of a wider flip camera setup. While we didn't have the time to test the battery life of the Zenfone 6, Asus claims that it will last for two days on a single charge which is decent. This, by default, can be used to summon Google Assistant easily, but it can be customised to perform a variety of actions, from opening the camera to enabling the torch. The smartphone will go on sale starting from May 25, 2019, in two colors including the Midnight Black, and Twilight Silver.

Oh, and hey, there's also a headphone jack. Fun!

The 6.4-inch display is notch free and available in an FHD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. That gives it a whopping 91-percent screen-to-body ratio. 5z user get Zen Ui 6.0 update? The users can further expand the storage up to 1TB by adding a microSD card.

Asus has made Android phones for half a decade, but they've struggled to reach a mainstream audience.

What do you think of the ZenFone 6?

Powering all these goodies is a massive 5,000mAh battery which supports Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.

In these sketches, we see the final design of the ZenFone 6 taking form. Charging is fast at 18W but not quite as quick as what some flagships can do.

Though it may not look like it, the smartphone actually features a custom ZenUI.

A release date hasn't been announced yet, but prices have - at least for Europe.

For a start, there are fewer cameras to worry about, freeing up a little more space inside the phone for other goodies - like expanding the battery to 5,000mAh capacity.
