US crosses 800 measles cases for 2019

The bulk of cases today are concentrated in NY state. Harris, which includes Houston, has had four cases of measles so far this year, the most in Texas. Brooklyn and Rockland, New York; Oakland, Michigan; and Clark County, Washington, located in southern part of the state, were among the hardest hit. These areas are home to the Orthodox Jewish communities that have been reporting an increasing number of cases since October. According to USA health officials, the growing tally that is the nation's highest in 25 years.

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has set off a state of emergency and urged residents of a neighborhood in Brooklyn to receive the vaccine or face a Dollars 1,000 fine.

The best way to protect against the disease is to get the measles-mumps-rubella shot (MMR) shot.

According to the Rockland County Health Department, more than 20,000 doses of the MMR vaccine have been administered there since October.

Sarkar concluded: "The vaccine avoidance problem is not limited to measles".

Two were in Florida, the first in Broward and the second in Pinellas.

"Anyone who is not protected against measles is at risk of getting infected when they travel internationally", the CDC says.
