Odell Beckham Jr.'s absence from OTAs raises eyebrows

A source told cleveland.com that Johnson, who's asked to be traded, will participate in voluntary OTAs, but he was absent each of the first two days. He did, however, post an Instagram photo of himself in Browns' gear on Wednesday, which is progress.

"I communicate with Duke often or a few times, a couple times a week probably, " Kitchens said after practice Wednesday.

"But under no circumstance am I going to say that I'm pissed off at Odell for not being here". As long as everybody is on the same page as that, I'm fine as long as they are ready to play. "I'm not giving him an out by any stretch of imagination, and nobody here knows the conversations that Odell and I have".

Kitchens acknowledged that ideally he'd love 100% participation. He's already had to defend Odell Beckham Jr. for his lack of participation, including skipping the extra minicamp last month.

The star wide receiver did not practice Wednesday after showing up Tuesday for Cleveland's voluntary offseason program, ending an excused - if not questionable - monthlong absence. "We just need to incorporate it into a team setting", Kitchen said. "I'm not going to fool you and try to trick you into saying I'm happy-go-lucky fine with it. All of them are going to be ready to play". I want everybody here because I do think it is important to be here, but it is their option.

The coach added: "Odell Beckham is going to be here in the fall, and he's going to be a good football player in the fall just like he has been". Some deemed it a bad first impression, though things don't get mandatory until June's minicamp.
