Jack Marriott crushes Leeds' promotion dream to cap off bonkers semi-final

Derby County will look to book a spot in the Championship play-off final, when they head to Elland Road looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the second leg of their semi-final against Leeds United on Wednesday evening, and they are hopeful of having two key men available, according to their official website.

Several of Lampard's victorious side took the opportunity to reference the incident in January that led to Leeds being fined £200,000 after manager Marcelo Bielsa admitting spying on his opponents.

The two sides met in the play-off semi final. And the Leeds fans chanted at Lampard about 'spygate'.

That put Leeds 2-0 up on aggregate but just before the break, a bad defensive mix-up between Leeds keeper Kiko Casilla and defender Liam Cooper allowed Derby substitute Marriott to convert into an empty net with his first touch of the game.

"Stop crying Frank Lampard", the former Chelsea midfielder sang, before celebrating with his players. "Sometimes feelings can be wrong but when we got the first goal back the belief just began to rise", he said. I haven't thought about Spygate for a long time.

With Leeds 2-0 up on aggregate, Derby pushed for an equaliser, which they eventually found on the stroke of halftime through Jack Marriot.

Mount hauled Derby level in a tie turned on its head 38 seconds into the second half, digging out a fabulous finish to cap a solo run, and the woefully erratic Casilla was similarly helpless when Cooper pulled back Mason Bennett to concede a penalty that Wilson converted.

The manager even laughingly pretended to wipe away tears as he sang the final line as Derby got the last laugh on Leeds, beating them for the first time in what was their final of four meetings this season.
