The second screen in the OMEN X 2S is a six-inch 1080p touchscreen which will allow gamers to chat in WeChat and WhatsApp, browse in Spotify, watch Twitch and YouTube and more.

Bendy screens are a hot topic right now, given Samsung's folding phone, and cool prototypes like Lenovo's flexible screen laptop, but HP's Omen X 2S laptop is taking a different approach to packing more display into a device.

So, while you can't use it to expand your field of view when playing games -like adding an additional monitor would do - this second screen allows you to multitask easily.

That second screen has more uses besides merely showing the applications you use while you play games.

And if mirroring just one tiny part of the screen, or using it as a macro pad doesn't appeal to you, HP claims you can also use it as a full second (albeit tiny) screen, tossing videos onto it, or even just display a Discord or Slack channel. According to HP, you see, 82% of people use their phones for messaging while playing games these days, while 49% use them to watch livestreams, videos and surf the web.

HP has a lot of other new gaming laptops, too. It's 20mm thick, which is thicker than your average laptop, but in line with thinner gaming laptops like the Razer Blade, which is 19.9mm thick.

Admittedly, some of the Omen X 2S's second screen functions do sound like they might actually be vaguely useful. It also uses Thermal Grizzly liquid metal instead of thermal paste on the CPU, which HP says can improve performance by 28 percent in games such as Apex Legends.

Expected to arrive in the United Kingdom in July, the Omen X 2S's entry-level model (an Intel Core i7-9750H, 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD and RTX 2070 Max-Q combo) is expected to cost a whopping £2500 on release, while the upper-end model (which has an Intel Core i9-9880H, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and an RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics chip) is set to be another grand on top of that at £3500.

There's also a version with an Intel Core i9-9880H, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD and Nvidia RTX 2080 for £3499.99 (around $4,500, AU$6,000).

The HP Omen X 25 laptop will go on sale in July for £2,499.99 (around $3,200, AU$4,600) for the version with an Intel Core i7-9750H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and RTX 2070 graphics card.
