Furthermore, with the PS5 expected to to have backwards-compatibility with PlayStation 4 titles, there would be a huge number of games that wouldn't support Sony 360 Reality Audio. Aside from graphical benefit, Cerny hinted that the ray-tracing GPU will also include a "custom unit for 3D audio", that can similarly trace in-game sound back to its source.

That faster loading also means an in-game camera can zip around Spider-Man's urban environments more quickly, without having to wait for the slow-loading hard drive.

Cerny was naturally coy about some of the key details of this next PlayStation, which he refused to label as "PlayStation 5", electing to refer to it as "the next-gen console". According to Wired, fast-travelling between locations in Insomniac's Spider-Man on a PS4 Pro took 15 seconds. We don't even have an official name for the machine yet (Cerny won't commit to calling it a PlayStation 5 yet, apparently) but this new piece - which you can read in full here - highlights the headline features of the upcoming hardware. In addition to the predictable nuts-and-bolts updates, we have new information on the most desirable upgrades, namely that the new console will be fully backwards compatible. While the company didn't outright confirm that Death Stranding could also see a release on both platforms, Cerny wasn't able to keep a straight face when asked about it directly.

Cerny's comment is interesting, however, because it leaves the door open for PS5's price to be higher than $400, the PS4's launch price.

Will also support 8KPlayStation 5 will also support 8K graphics but Cerny did not provide further details. Multiple studios have been working with the console, and Sony recently accelerated its release of development kits for the console.

8K support and ray-tracing support will ensure your future games will have unbelievable lighting while looking fantastic, and 3D audio will be supported as well.

With Sony missing out on E3 2019, who knows when we will get a further glimpse of the future, but for now, this will do. Instead, Sony made a decision to share the first details about its next-generation console in an interview with Wired. Whenever the PS5 is finally ready to hit store shelves, we can promise you one thing: we're going to be ready.
