Wilson is now the highest paid player in the league with a $140 million contract extension over four years.

The Seahawks and their star quarterback reached a deal extremely late Monday night, which came right before Wilson's self-imposed deadline of midnight PST Monday for a new contract.

Wilson's per year average of $35 million tops Aaron Rodgers' average annual salary of $33.5 million as part of the $134 million extension he signed last year with the Green Bay Packers. Wilson reportedly got a record $65 million signing bonus as well. Former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio added to the noise by suggesting Wilson would be traded this offseason, and then Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu recently tweeted out of nowhere: "Russ wants NY".

"Hey Seattle, we got a deal", a sleepy-sounding Wilson says while lying in bed next to his wife Ciara.

The Seattle Seahawks signed him to a record-breaking contract extension, and he celebrated by snuggling his love, Ciara, in bed! Wilson's agent, Mark Rodgers, arrived at team headquarters last Friday to hammer out a deal, according to ESPN. Wilson has a losing record against just one team in the National Football League that he's played at least three times: the Rams (6-8).

Wilson, the team's starting quarterback since 2012, announced the news via Twitter early Tuesday morning.

"At the same time, and I know Dak wants this, you want a supporting cast", Jones said on a recent interview with ESPN Radio.

For those anxious about Wilson eating up too much cap room and cash, don't worry.

He's now the highest paid player in the NFL. Seattle has also reached the playoffs 6 of the 7 years Wilson has been under center, as TMZ points out.

Russell can sleep easy knowing that he's getting paid. He's also coming off of what may have been his best individual year, so the extension is coming at a good time.

The 5-foot-11 Wilson threw for a career-high 35 touchdowns and matched his career low with seven interceptions.

Wilson, 30, is a Super Bowl victor and five-time Pro Bowler. He has started all 112 games he has played for the Seahawks. "I'm excited about that", Wilson said.
