Leafs' Kadri to have in-person hearing for Game 2 cross-check

The problem is that he has to actually be on the ice for any of that to matter, and he continues to take himself out of the lineup because of the often times unsafe and reckless style of game that he plays.

Was DeBrusk surprised that Kadri sought him out?

Here's what we know.

Kadri was offered an in-person hearing by the NHL, meaning the league had the option to suspend him for more than five games. We didn't get the second game.

Shortly after the game, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Kadri will have an in-person hearing for his actions, which led to a 5-minute major penalty in the third period Saturday night.

Kadri's suspension will ding the Leafs down the middle, with Tyler Ennis drawing into the lineup and William Nylander sliding into the third-line center role between Connor Brown and Patrick Marleau.

"I moved around a lot because of my dad", said DeBrusk. Should there have been a penalty?

All hell is breaking loose in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. During the regular season, Boston ranked 3rd in the league in power play conversions at 25.9% and 16th in penalty kill at 79.9%.

A Foggy Jake DeBrusk spoke to reporters after the game but would not discuss the hit and sais he doesn't even really remember it. It was an overreaction by Kadri. He weighed in with a profanity-laced tirade that DeBrusk deserved what Kadri did, for what amounted to a disrespectful "greasy" hit on Marleau. "I think everyone saw what happened and that's how I'm leaving it".

"I thought it was clean, looking back on it, shoulder to shoulder", Cassidy said.

"Probably not a good thing", said Toronto coach Mike Babcock. "I have never really been that before, I guess, enemy No. 1". In the end, you can't let that get in the way of what you're doing. You're physical. Win the puck battles.

If Babcock can trust Kadri - who is under contract through the 2021-22 season with an annual average salary of $4.5-million United States - we aren't sure how. He can't seem to control himself in intense games.

Nazem Kadri has been suspended for the second straight year. Kadri made his bed and now he has to sleep in it.

"But obviously the refs had their whistle up their ass or they were too f-ing slow and were two lines behind the play, so they didn't see it so they couldn't have called it".

Kadri certainly won't get the benefit of the doubt with his suspension history. After Kadri got out of the box for another minor - this time for hooking Brad Marchand - he collided knee-on-knee with Debrusk while cutting through the offensive zone. Toronto is just 3-7 in their last 10 Conference quarterfinal games dating back to last season and they are just 2-5 in their last 7 contests at home but playoff time in Toronto is a different breed as the fans will surely be loud and proud on Monday night. But it looks like Krug, at worst, will be a game-time decision for Game 3.
