Alex Ovechkin and Andrei Svechnikov dropped the gloves early in Game 3 on Monday night, and it went poorly for the Carolina Hurricanes rookie.

Ovechkin's Washington Capitals now lead their first round playoff series with the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0.

Ovechkin sent Svechnikov to the ice with a heavy right hand, and the 19-year-old needed assistance to get to Carolina's locker room.

Ovechkin landed three consecutive daggers to Svechnikov's head as the latter swung to no avail.

The internet, as always, acted quickly, updating Svechnikov's Wikipedia to read, "He was killed in a fight by Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals on April 15,2019", though it was quickly changed back to its original form.

Svechnikov was down on the ice for far too long and had to be helped off by medical trainers. He's done a little bit of everything for the Capitals this series, tallying two primary assists in Saturday's Game 2 win, scoring a goal in Game 1 and now recording the first fight of the matchup.

Washington leads the series, 2-0.

The Hurricanes also announced that Micheal Ferland will not return to Monday's game.
