The NAG said the members requested that the strike be put off in view of the "critical meeting" planned on Monday with the airline management and the State Bank of India (SBI).

After the meeting, Kharola said the carrier had money to operate 6-7 planes over the weekend and that the lenders would have to decide how many jets it could fly after Monday afternoon, news channel ET Now reported on Friday.

"In light of the meeting, the members have requested, through their team leaders, that the call of "No Pay No Work" be deferred to give the airline a chance of survival".

While the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code clearly bars defaulting promoters from bidding for the assets on sale, "the bidding process for Jet Airways is not being done under the IBC code", said sources.

Meanwhile, Rajeshri Pathy has resigned as an independent director of Jet.

The pilots, along with engineers and senior management, have not received salaries since January. The SBI-led group of lenders had last month taken control of the airline and agreed to provide an immediate funding support of Rs 1,500 crore.

A pilot who confirmed his participation in Monday's joint visit to the airline headquarters to seek answers said, "Everytime there has been a ray of hope, it seems to flicker and die out without anything fruitful transpiring".

NAG had on March 31 decided that if the Jet management failed to pay the dues to pilots and Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME), it would take a final decision on April 15. In a similar instance then, the guild deferred the agitation to April 15, citing the same reason of giving more time to the new management.

"Jet Airways has now suspended operations to SAARC and ASEAN destinations, as well as to Toronto and Paris from Chennai and back", the airlines said in a statement.

The airline, which has debts of more than $1 billion, also cancelled more global flights to Europe and North America for the upcoming week.

"The airline has also cancelled its long-haul, west bound operations to/from Amsterdam, London Heathrow, and Paris until April 16 (Tuesday)", it added.

Following complaints by passengers of lack of information on cancellation and non-receipt of refunds, civil aviation secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola had on Friday said that the Centre had asked Jet Airways to inform passengers 48 hours in advance about flight cancellations and take their problems into consideration.
