PSN Name Change: Where To Find The Option

When detected, the name is changed to Tempxxxxxx (so Temp345678, Temp902716, etc).

PlayStation gamers are now finally allowed to change their PlayStation Network ID. As Gamasutra explains, though, if your name is changed because the original was offensive, it can take a little bit longer to create a whole new one to change the account to. You can see the full list of games that support PSN ID changes here. Only the first name change is free, though, and the feature causes issues with a handful of games. Once this feature launches, you'll be able to change your PSN ID to whatever you wish (assuming of course that it doesn't violate PSN's rules). For PS Plus subscribers, this fee is $4.99 or £3.99, while for non-subscribers it is $9.99 or £7.99.

Another caveat to keep in mind is that not all PS4 games will support ID changes.

If that sounds like too much to remember, you can check this handy list of tested games and potential issues.

Some games, according to Sony, will have critical screw-ups because of the ID change, including the loss of progress or user-generated content, trophies, in-game currency, and others.

You can change your IDs as often as you like. But the game must have been released on or after April 1, 2018.

The final part is confirming the change, and choosing whether to show one's old ID in parenthesis for the next 30 days or just the new name.

From your PS4 go to [Settings]. From there, choose Account Information, then Profile, and finally Online ID. To change your ID through a web browser, first log in to your PSN account, then select PSN Profile.

Detailing how the system works, Sony explained that PSN users who've made a decision to change their ID only for it to be flagged as inappropriate should be able to resolve the issue by reverting back to their original PSN name.

If it's implemented on an old name, users can revert to that, and if it's detected on a fresh name, they're asked to change it to something that doesn't suck.

Select the Edit button that's next to your Online ID.
