New York Times reporters Peter Baker and Emily Cochrane scolded Speaker Nancy Pelosi for not wanting to impeach President Donald Trump, say that she's setting a risky precedent - because Trump should be impeached even without adequate cause.

Mr. Pence is an annoyance, and a snoop, as well as an evangelical bigot, and Pelosi wants him to do his Trump-thumping somewhere else. "I don't think it's fair to say one way or the other before the process has played out". If Congress opts against impeachment regardless of what the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, reports, would that set the bar so high that impeachment will no longer be a viable option?

It's an interesting political strategy for a sitting president to openly discuss possible impeachment proceedings and underlines the theory that President Trump intends to run for reelection in 2020 against impeachment.

Pelosi added of Trump, "And he's just not worth it".

"I'm not for impeachment", the California Democrat said in an eye-opening interview with the Washington Post that was published Monday.

Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries of NY made this point bluntly: "We did not run on impeachment". Once in control of the House, in 2007, she made sure that Pentagon operations in Iraq were fully funded, including the major escalation ordered by Bush (the "surge"), that was in direct defiance of the public sentiment revealed in the election.

Steyer has been advocating, and building a case for, Trump's impeachment and removal from office for some time.

Trump subsequently retweeted Diamond and Silk, a seeming endorsement of their analysis of the Hatch Act, which says that most executive branch employees are prohibited from engaging in certain political activities.

"The now-public approach could help insulate Democrats from future criticism if the party does move forward with impeachment". Kayleigh McEnany, national press secretary for the Trump campaign, said in a statement.

"But not all Democrats are gelling with Pelosi's message".

Despite the scathing remarks, Donald Trump thanked Nancy Pelosi for not wanting the impeachment. The feisty politician simply said, "I'm not for impeachment", when asked about her stance regarding the issue.

Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, who conducted an all-day televised hearing for Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer and "fixer", chimed in with his support. The freshman congresswoman, who has previously said she "supports" impeachment, spoke to reporters in the wake of Pelosi saying Trump is "just not worth it".

On Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez said: "Legally I don't think it's something that can ever be 100 percent off the table, but if that's how she feels right now I respect that".
