Hunt was placed on the Commissioner Exempt list on November 30 and was released by his former club, the Kansas City Chiefs, that same day. After that, Hunt was accused of a violent encounter with a man at an OH resort in June 2018.

The Chiefs had been aware of the incident, but after the video clip emerged said that Hunt "had not been truthful" in his discussions with the team about the row.

Hunt's suspension will begin August 31, which means he can participate in the Browns' offseason program, training camp and 2019 preseason games.

"PRS Agency stands behind our client, Kareem Hunt, in his decision to accept the suspension handed down by the National Football League today", Hunt's agent, Dan Saffron, said in a statement to ESPN.

"I want to again apologize for my actions previous year", Hunt said in a statement released by the Browns. "I respect the league's decision on discipline, and I appreciate the time I spent with Commissioner Goodell last week", Hunt said in a statement issued by the Browns. I'm extremely grateful that John Dorsey, Dee and Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns organization are granting me the opportunity to earn their trust and represent their organization in the best way possible on and off the field.

Given what we know about Kareem through our extensive research, we believe he deserves a second chance but certainly with the understanding that he has to go through critical and essential steps to become a performing member of this organization, aside from what the National Football League determines from their ongoing investigation.

"I want everybody to know we have done extensive research in regards to this case, this player", Dorsey told reporters last month explaining why the team signed Hunt. I also appreciate all of the support I received from my union through this process.

"He has committed to take advantage of available resources to help him grow personally and as a member of the Cleveland community, and to live up to his obligations as an National Football League player", the statement read. He is eligible to play in the Browns' ninth regular season game.

Now reports have confirmed that Hunt has been removed from the Madden '19 video game as a result of this recent information. Hunt has been working out at the Browns' facility in Berea, Ohio, and is scheduled to take part in the team's offseason program starting on 1 April. He is scheduled to be a restricted free agent in March 2019.
