Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck either side of an Ainsley Maitland-Niles goal as the North London side joined local rivals Chelsea in the quarterfinals of Europe's second-tier club competition.

Arsenal makes two changes from the side that beat Manchester United at the weekend as the Gunners host Rennes in the Europa League.

Unai Emery's side will find out their next opponents when the draw is made on Friday and Cech is hopeful the Europa League title can prove a fitting final chapter for his career. Although they have no more top-six teams to face in the Premier League this season, they play more away than home fixtures.

Arsenal have missed out on Champions League football for the last two seasons, and their poor away record remains a big concerns. "And the last teams, they are all very important, and it's going to be very hard", Emery said.

"This game was a tricky situation because at 2-0 up, you're through, but they just need one goal".

"The 3-1 loss away put us in a very hard situation, but we knew how to deal with that and we got what we deserved".

Arsenal made the ideal start after Maitland-Niles played the ball into Aaron Ramsey who squared for Aubameyang to slot home from close range to put the Gunners 1-0 ahead after only three minutes.

"But I think we can feel this competition like in the Premier League, to do a good way and create, with our supporters, a big atmosphere and a big feeling together to do this way in the Premier League and also here in the Europa League".

And Aubameyang - who has previously celebrated goals with Batman and Spider-Man masks - had a special celebration up his sleeve, wearing Black Panther headgear from the Marvel superhero film.

"I needed a mask that would represent me", Aubameyang told BT Sport.

"It's the Black Panther and in Africa, in Gabon, we call the national team the Black Panthers of Gabon..."
