Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde has said Lionel Messi was "incredible" as the Blaugrana booked a Champions League quarter-final berth by beating Lyon 5-1.

The Barca captain dazzled defenders with a stunning solo run before squeezing a low shot past substitute goalkeeper Mathieu Gorgelin.

The Portuguese is the competition's top scorer with 124 goals in 160 games, putting him comfortably ahead of Messi, who has now netted 108 goals - albeit in just 131 appearances.

Sutton said: 'He's there to win Juventus the Champions League. We dominated the game, we scored two goals and we could have got more.

"It was a Champions League match and in this type of game it is normal that we have moments of tension and pressure because they tend to be very fair results".

Messi's goals make this the 11th consecutive season in which he has reached the 35-goal mark, but Ronaldo's hat-trick against Atletico underlined his status as the king of the Champions League.

Their Champions League rivalry is now poised to continue, with Juventus and Barcelona set to learn their quarter-final fate when the draw takes place on Friday at 11am.

While his fans have argued that he is still the bigger talent than Ronaldo, the Juve striker's career had begun to look more glittering - if possible - but after Wednesday all the GOAT memes were back out.

"We have all made merits to progress, we will see the rival, any one that we meet will be complicated".
