Police in Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, Halton and other Canadian centres after hunting for four men seen above who stole almost $200,000 by employing a trick known as a double spending attack.

Between Sept. 16 and 26, four men were captured on CCTV cameras making 112 withdrawals from Bitcoin kiosks in seven Canadian cities.

"Authorities believe the individuals have n-depth knowledge or interest in cryptocurrency, bitcoin and/or blockchain technology".

In the Canadian attacks on Bitcoin ATMs, the suspects are accused of initiating transactions and then remotely cancelling them before the kiosk/ATM company could process them.

The third suspect is believed to be responsible for transactions that occurred in Winnipeg. The men are now on the run, and Calgary police are looking for them. Calgary police say the four individuals collectively stole more about $200,000 from the company by repeatedly using this method.

Police are asking anyone who can identify the suspects to call the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234, regardless of where they live in, or contact Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous. The goal of 0-conf is to create instantaneous transactions for instances when the 10-minute Bitcoin transaction throughput time would not be convenient.

This made the team believe that the attacks were perpetrated by a group of cyber criminals working together.

Some miners won't accept transactions with these output types; those miners will accept the second double-spend transaction, helping you achieve a successful double-spend.
According to Todd, the bitcoin ATM operator was negligent in allowing 0-conf protocols on its machines.

The company that was targeted lost a total of $195.000 to the fraudulent transactions. "I got the sense that they weren't willing to go public due to a combination of factors such as not wanting to encourage more thefts, wanting to hide losses from investors, etc".
