We've known for a while now that Google's Allo messaging service would be following in Google+'s footsteps, but a specific close data hadn't been revealed - we only knew that it'd be shutting down this month. We've seen this with App Actions in Android and suggested edits in Google Photos, and now a similar feature has arrived in the Google Messages app. Messages, Google answer to Apple's iMessage, is able to send messages via the RCS protocol. It is on the same support page that the company notes "We're saying goodbye to Allo on March 12, 2019".

The company's plan is to focus instead on its Google Duo video-call app and Messages, as well as Hangouts Chat and Meet for G Suite customers. The mobile messaging service was hotly anticipated when it came out in 2016, but the slow addition of features and oversaturation of the messaging ecosystem doomed the app.

Google never really made the case for why people should move to Allo, and consumers the world over didn't sit around waiting for it.
