Can’t load Facebook and Instagram? You’re not alone

A slew of Facebook -owned social media sites are experiencing a worldwide outage, leaving thousands of users unable to connect.

Facebook is now down with people all around the globe having difficulty accessing the world's largest social network.

According to The Verge, Messenger couldn't load at all on the desktop, but the mobile app was working.

In another tweet, the company added that it can confirm that the issue is NOT related to a DDoS attack.

"We're working on getting it fixed as soon as we can", a message told many users as they tried to post content.

According to, Facebook users in the United States are reporting issues with posting, live streaming features and a slew of other technical difficulties.

The outage, looking at - is worldwide but hitting the USA and Europe fairly hard.

Reports of problems with Facebook's WhatsApp also have been reported.

Other users trying to post status updates on Facebook, including CNET staff, got error messages saying "something went wrong".

The last time Facebook went down was November 20 - and it took Instagram with it then as well.

On Twitter, the term #Facebookdown trending for much of the day, with users lamenting that they could not post anything or even log into the website.

So of course, people are taking to Twitter for memes and mocking.
