After the massive success of the Rings and Hobbit movies from Peter Jackson (forget that the last two Hobbit installments were just meh) as well as the upcoming Rings adaptation on Amazon, it really is the ideal time to tell Tolkien's personal story of how it all came together. Check out the trailer now below! His time spent learning and growing leads Tolkien to the battlefield, where he serves during World War I, the horrors of which threaten to disband his group of friends and break apart the "fellowship" for good. It's directed by Dome Karukoski (Tom of Finland), with a script from David Gleeson (Cowboys and Angels) and Stephen Beresford (Pride).

Dropped on Tuesday by Fox Searchlight Pictures, the footage features Nicholas Hoult in the titular role, a young Tolkien who was orphaned in his youth who finds comfort, belonging, love, and a makeshift family in a band of fellow misfits at his English school.

"Tolkien" opens in theaters May 10.
