Dolphins rumors: Kyler Murray ‘would make a lot of sense’ for Miami

But perhaps Murray can slip in, a beneficiary of not only his athletic skills but also the success in the recent past of Russell Wilson and Baker Mayfield - shorter QBs who have proven themselves on the National Football League level.

Murray, Oklahoma's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, announced on Twitter Monday that he is picking football over baseball. If he's selected anywhere in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, he can expect to earn more than twice what he'd have earned with the Athletics' signing bonus; last year's No. 32 overall pick, Lamar Jackson, signed for almost $9.5MM and will earn the entirety of that sum.

Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders played both football and baseball, but Sanders was a running back and Sanders a cornerback.

Murray was supposed to report to spring training for the A's on Friday.

Murray made no mention of the A's or baseball in his statement. "Football has been my love and my passion my entire life. I was raised to play QB and I very much look forward to dedicating 100% of myself to being the best QB possible and winning NFL Championships". I have started an extensive training program to further prepare myself for upcoming workouts and interviews. Murray's locker remained empty on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, in the spring training clubhouse of the Oakland Athletics, who say they are uncertain when or if the Heisman Trophy victor will report to the baseball team he signed with last summer.

The NFL Combine begins at the end of February.

"Things have certainly changed since the draft", Billy Beane, Oakland's executive vice-president of baseball operations, said before the announcement. He wants to play in the NFL rather than pursue a Major League Baseball career. "The situation is fluid right now [based] on a historic college football season that the young man had".

However, it's not too surprising, considering the success Murray had at Oklahoma. He added 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
