Ex Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has revealed that he underwent emergency open heart surgery last week.

Lindsey Buckingham's wife Kristen confirmed the guitarist and songwriter had had emergency surgery. She adds in the note that Buckingham "and his heart" are doing well after the surgery.

It's unclear whether the damage is permanent or not, although, according to Buckingham's wife, future tour dates have been put on hold.

"This past year has been a very stressful and hard year for our family to say the least. Needless to say, all touring and shows now scheduled have been put on pause for the moment as he gathers the strength to heal completely".

"He looks forward to recovery and putting this behind him", she said.

She continued stating that the announcement served as a dual goal to inform fans that Lindsey was pausing future shows in an effort to "heal completely" and to also inspire someone to 'seek preventative care'.

'Lindsey's family has a history of heart issues, having lost both his father at 56 and his brother at 46 to heart related illness, ' Kristen explained.
