'Roma' Is The Big Winner At Critics' Choice Awards

The 24th annual ceremony held Sunday at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California, also split the top actress award between Glenn Close for "The Wife" and Lady Gaga for "A Star Is Born".

Distributed by Netflix, Roma was written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron who also directed 2004s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

While Black Panther didn't bring home the Best Picture award, the record-breaking film certainly didn't go home empty-handed. Or will the victor be Roma or Black Panther?

The Favourite, which marked Dublin-based production company Element Pictures' third collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos following on from The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, is nominated for 14 Critics' Choice Awards. The Critics' Choice Awards, decided by film and television critics from the U.S. and Canada, are considered one of the best predictors for the Academy Awards.

As for other films honored within their specific genres tonight, A Quiet Place took home the award for Best Sci-Fi or Horror Movie while Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - Fallout won for Best Action Film.
