Teenager dies from overdose at music festival

The 19-year-old was taken from the FOMO Festival in Parramatta to Westmead Hospital on Saturday night, but later died.

Police say the Central Coast teenager was taken from the Parramatta Park event to Westmead Hospital about 6pm on Saturday, and died later on Saturday night.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the 19-year-old was presented to the medical centre at the festival site, appearing to have a reaction to drugs.

Police say that an estimated crowd of 11,387 people attended the music festival, with officers searching a total of 146 people with 54 people found in possession of drugs.

A further 24 people were removed from the venue, generally for intoxication issues, and 28 were refused entry.

Over the new year period, 22-year-old Queensland man Josh Tam died of a suspected overdose after ingesting an unknown substance at the Lost Paradise festival in Glenworth Valley.

The police are preparing a report for the coroner.
