The character was much more than some monosyllabic mob boss; when we first met Tony, he was suffering from panic attacks and a hard family life (often, problems of his own making), and the David Chase-led show managed to masterfully meld his mental processes with the unconventional life he was living as the head of the Soprano Crime Family in New Jersey.

David Chase's groundbreaking mafia drama first aired in the U.S. on January 10 1999 and viewers spent six seasons following the trials and tribulations of New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano, played by the late James Gandolfini. Alessandro Nivola has been cast as Dickie Moltisanti, father of The Sopranos' Christopher.

The film begins in 1967 with the backdrop of the race riots that tore through Newark, New Jersey.

"Dickie, as he's mentioned throughout the "Sopranos" series, was an important figure in Tony's life", Nivola said.

After a long pause, Chase simply says, "F**k you guys". "The movie will deal with the tensions between the blacks and whites at the time, and Tony Soprano will be part of this, but as a kid".

"The Sopranos" prequel movie will feature a young Tony Soprano.

Now Dickie will come to life on the big screen as part of "The Many Saints of Newark" while helping Tony navigate his teenage years as he learns more and more about the family business.

"It is going to depict when it was good", Chase said about the mafia in this time period. Those traditions were followed more loosely in the series.

Seitz, however, picks up on a phrase that Chase probably regrets using. "I just, people want to know, I have no idea".

"I'm clueless", she said. I started thinking about those events and organized crime, and I just got interested in mixing those two elements.

"I loved how the series ended because I think that there was no way everybody was gonna be happy", Edie Falco, who played Tony Soprano's wife, Carmela, tells ET.
