The New York Yankees appeared to withdraw consideration for Machado's services when they reportedly agreed to terms with veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu.

Former Rockies All-Star DJ LeMahieu has reached a two-year deal with NY that will pay him $24 million, The Athletic and ESPN reported Friday. The deal is expected to be "in the $24 million range", per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

The answer might very well be "no" if Machado refuses to lower his expectations; the Yankees' party line is they will not pay him anywhere near $300 million.

While LeMahieu does not sport much power, he possesses good bat to ball skills. This will help the Yankees' lineup as it will provide balance. The righty has always racked up lots of hits and sports a high career batting average.

After seven solid seasons with the Colorado Rockies, LeMaheiu will join the Bombers in NY as a solid rotational piece moving forward.

The Yankees plan to use LeMahieu, a three-time Gold Glover, in a versatile role around the infield. He led Major League Baseball in defensive regression analysis last season.

As for Manny Machado, LeMahieu's signing likely signals the end of the possible fit.

He's only played 41 career games at third base, the position where Miguel Andujar resides and four games at first base. The Yankees have not publicly made Machado an offer - and with LeMahieu, Andujar, Torres, and Tulowitzki now - they may never get to that point.

No doubt, that is the most probable outcome, perhaps even 95 percent probable. We will have to wait and see, but the Bronx Bombers should be in the conversation.
