Named in Australia's squad for the two Tests against Sri Lanka which begin later in the month, Pucovski, along with fellow Test squad members Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns will play for the CA XI against the same opposition in Hobart.

Batsmen Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh were all dropped from the squad that lost a home test series against India for the first time.

"To be honest, mate, they say it's got nothing to do with his personality, but I do", Quiney, a former teammate of Maxwell's at Victoria, said on SEN Breakfast. "There's something there they don't like about Maxy because he's ticked enough boxes runs-wise", Quiney told SEN Breakfast.

"The message keeps changing with him".

Maxwell detailed in a radio interview previous year how he rejected offers to play domestic cricket in England, believing he would be part of Australia A's tour of India then hopefully earn selection in the ensuing Test series against Pakistan. He's also set to feature in a good number of white-ball games in the lead up to the World Cup in England.

"It just seems weird and that's why I reckon it's got to be something personal".

Maxwell has been plugging away in the Big Bash.

Maxwell, however, was not selected for that tour nor October's Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

But he has only played eight first-class matches, and after that double ton took a break from cricket because of a mental health issue."Will Pucovski is an exciting young player who is making his mark in the Sheffield Shield".

He believes that all these are clear signs of him wanting to play Test cricket for Australia. "He is another player with a track record of making centuries".

Opportunities to face the red ball have been few and far between for Maxwell.

"I don't like getting grumpy but there's so many stories that go around about so much stuff". To think that in two weeks time there is a chance I would play for my country is unbelievable.

Maxwell had earlier said that he had offers from counties previous year too but let go of them because of the message that was seemingly conveyed to him by the board.

"I feel like I'm doing everything I can and I'm trying to make all the right moves off the field by getting red-ball cricket elsewhere and showing I'm 100 per cent serious". Later, Justin called the conjectures surrounding Glenn's non-selection in Tests as "careless whispers".

Melbourne Stars BBL captain Glenn Maxwell is unhappy about his his treatment from Cricket Australia.

"But what they (the selectors) have always said is that runs in any format is always going to be currency".

Glenn Maxwell last featured for Australia in Tests in 2017 against Bangladesh.
