Helicopter blades strike, kill man at Florida airport

The main rotor blades struck the victim in the head.

Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport, formerly known as Hernando County Airport, is a joint civil-military public airport located 6 miles southwest of the central business district of Brooksville, a city in Hernando County.

He said Disi "had an interaction" with the aircraft and "died nearly immediately, if not immediately".

It is being treated as a tragic accident, and foul play is not suspected.

"Obviously a death that is a little bit unusual... and we want to make sure we have all the answers", WFLA cited Sheriff Al Nienhuis as saying. Officials have launched an investigation into the incident.

The helicopter which decapitated Disi belongs to Dr. Alfred Bonati of the Bonati Spine Institute in Hudson, who was at the site when the tragic incident occurred. Bonati was at the scene when the accident occurred.

According to U.S. News and World Report, Bonati has been a medical practitioner for two decades since graduating from Universidad de Cadiz Faculty of Medicine.

In an email, a spokesperson for the the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told the Miami Herald it could "only confirm an individual was fatally injured, but not the specific nature of the injury". The sheriff said it did not take place near the runways and air traffic was not affected.
