In November a year ago, a preliminary hearing of the defamation case was told McLachlan declined to participate in an interview with Victoria Police as part of their investigation into the allegations of assault and indecent assault.

The charges come a year after it was revealed several of McLachlan co-stars from the 2014 production of the Rocky Horror show had accused him of indecent and inappropriate behaviour.

The former Neighbours star vehemently denied the allegations previously and sued the ABC and Fairfax after the outlets published allegations of harassment.

It is not now clear exactly what alleged incidents these charges are related to.

"In either event, they are to the best of my knowledge utterly and entirely false".

Craig has been a prominent face on stages and screens in Australia, with a career spanning decades.

A statement from police has stated that he has been charged on summons to appear at Melbourne Magistrate's Court on February 8, 2019.

However, it has not been confirmed whether the charges relate to the Rocky Horror Shows accusations.

The actor lives in NSW and will have to travel to Melbourne for the court appearance.
