Browns pass on Colts' Matt Eberflus as new head coach

And maybe that's not a bad thing, after all.

This is significant because the Browns interviewed Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus on Sunday, the day following the Indy's 21-7 wild-card win in which the defense put on an impressive showing.

The age thing doesn't, or shouldn't, matter.

He is fairly young at 46 years old, so he might be the right mix for the 39-year-old Kliff Kingsbury.

One of those coaches was former Green Bay Packers' head coach Mike McCarthy.

In Chicago, Fangio made a similar impact on defense.

Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reported that the other finalist for the job was Kevin Stefanski, who finished the season as the Minnesota Vikings' interim offensive coordinator.

Not surprisingly, with Kitchens being hired as head coach, Gregg Williams has been relieved of his duties.

Elway has famously been unable to figure out his franchise's quarterback since Peyton Manning retired following the 2015 season. Last season, the Buccaneers averaged 24.8 points per game, which was 12th in the league.

Kitchens has only ever served as offensive position coach.

Expect the Broncos to stick with their 3-4 defense.

The Browns had gone 1-31 in the previous two seasons under Jackson.

And if the Broncos can't eventually get back on track with Fangio in charge, Elway, having taken the road less traveled in the 2019 coaching cycle and in total control, should start to worry about his own job security.
