The Athletic surveyed 85 defensive players across 25 teams, and 81 of those said Kaepernick deserved to be in the NFL.

Kaepernick received a vote of confidence from the survey voters. Two players voted no and two players issued a "no comment" on the subject.

When asked which quarterback Kaepernick should replace, 20% of the players polled pointed to Jacksonville Jaguars' Blake Bortles, who was benched toward the end of last season in favor of Cody Kessler.

"Another player expressed his belief that there should be plenty of opportunities for Kaepernick to be part of an National Football League roster regardless of his role: "S-t, any team that carries three quarterbacks for sure, the third guy on that roster".

If it were up to NFL players, though, Kaepernick would be in the league.

Despite leading the San Francisco 49ers to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl 47 appearance, Colin Kaepernick continues to await the chance to play football again.
