Police in Houston have filed capital murder charges against a second man in connection with the drive-by shooting death of a seven-year-old girl. Woodruffe was arrested along with Eric Black Jr. on January 5 but was held on felony drug possession pending further investigation.

The news of Woodruffe's charges came the same day as Jazmine's funeral, where hundreds turned out to The Community of Faith Church in North Houston to pay their respects.

Woodruffe, 24, has been charged with capital murder after the little girl was gunned down in her mother's vehicle in Houston, Texas as they drove to a grocery store.

The family had described the shooter as a white man driving a red pickup truck, prompting concerns that her death was a hate crime.

"At this time, investigators do not believe Jazmine's family was the intended target of the shooting, and that they were possibly shot as a result of mistaken identity", investigators explained. Both suspects are black.

Woodruffe, 24, will be in court Wednesday morning. The girl's mother, LaPorsha Washington, was shot in the arm and the girl's 15-year-old sister was injured when the window shattered.

A sketch drawn up by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, which greatly resembles Cantrell, a white man with blue eyes, was released and then widely circulated by the prominent Black Lives Matter activist, Shaun King, last week. A man pulled his vehicle up next to their auto at around 7 a.m. and opened fire, Jazmine's mother, LaPorsha Washington, said.

Prosecutors say they found a 9mm handgun, believed to be the murder weapon, when they searched Black's home.

Jazmine was struck in the head by a bullet and died at the scene.

The heartbreaking murder of Jazmine captured the attention of the country, including community activists and celebrities, as the search for her killer went on for a week.

"Gonzalez acknowledged at a press conference Sunday that he received a tip from King in the middle of the week that Barnes's killer was not the white male initially suspected in the case", The Daily Caller reported. "I know she's smiling down, and God's going to get the glory out of everything".

"I just want everyone to back off", she said.

A GoFundMe account set up to help cover funeral costs has raised more than $82,000 from almost 3,000 donors.

Reports say O'Neal and Houston Senior Police Officer Kenneth Miles brought a cashier's check to Jazmine's family last week, but he isn't the only superstar offering a hand. Houston Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins has said he'll donate his playoff game check to the family.
